Four Ingredient Crusty Bread

10 Oct

I just made the easiest homemade whole wheat bread on the planet. Thanks Pinterest! Luckily I had all these ingredients in my pantry – all four of them.

Start with 3 cups of flour – I used whole wheat.

Then I added 1 3/4 tsp of salt and 1/2 tsp of yeast.

Finally 1 1/2 cups of water. Mix it all up – it will be sticky.

Cover it with plastic wrap and let it sit overnight. Mine sat for about 12 hours.

It should have risen quite a bit. Now I heated my oven to 450 and put my crockpot insert in it to heat for 30 minutes. Weird? Yes. You can also use a cast iron pot. In the meantime, dump your dough onto a heavily floured surface and shape into a ball. Cover it with plastic wrap again. When the pot has heated for thirty minutes, pull it out and put your dough inside. Remember the pot will be HOT. And you don’t have to grease the pot at all.

Mmm. Dough.

Cover the pot with tin foil and bake at 450 for 30 minutes. Easy peasy.

Finished product after I’d eaten some. This was simple and delicious with butter slathered all over it. You can fancy it up by adding cheese, nuts, dried fruit, etc. Will definitely be making this again.
